The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, one of the nation’s leading medical schools, along with its Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, will serve to integrate all clinical and research missions for the seven member hospital campuses and vast network of ambulatory facilities in the new Mount Sinai Health System.
“In this rich and dynamic environment, Mount Sinai’s medical and graduate students, as well as our residents and fellows, will be offered an unparalleled range of clinical and research experiences,” says Dennis S. Charney, MD, Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Dean of Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and President for Academic Affairs, Mount Sinai Health System. “We will provide them with extraordinary opportunities to train and conduct research in a truly comprehensive and fully integrated health system that treats people of all ages, for every illness and injury.” It is expected that more than 2,000 residents and fellows will train at the new Mount Sinai Health System.
The Health System’s large and diverse patient population will also be the catalyst to establish Clinical Institutes of Excellence across a spectrum of fields. “Our clinical depth within these specialties will increase enormously, helping to provide more opportunities to conduct cutting-edge research and discover new treatments for a great range of medical conditions,” says Dr. Charney. “Our Clinical Institutes of Excellence will be hubs of translational research and health care innovation.”
All of Continuum’s affiliations with other medical schools will eventually transfer to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, which will be the single medical school for the Health System. “This combination of our scientific and clinical expertise will create a world-class health care system that accelerates the pace of breakthrough treatments, trains highly skilled physicians and scientists, and delivers the most advanced level of care to our patients,” says Dr. Charney.
