Halloween is that sweet time of year when children enjoy dressing up in their favorite costume and go trick-or-treating collecting candy and treats from their friends and neighbors. The holiday of pumpkins and scary ghosts also marks the beginning of a holiday season ahead that brings more treats and desserts like Christmas cookies and fruitcakes.

Allergies and chronic sinus issues can leave many patients finding it very difficult to breathe freely from their nose. On a daily basis, the body’s nasal mucosa is bombarded with a countless number of irritants, pollutants, fragrances and allergens. Certain individuals can be exquisitely sensitive to these substances, causing the body’s natural barrier, the nasal mucosa, to become inflamed and irritated. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of death from cancer in the United States. Being that March is colorectal cancer awareness month, how can we lower our chance of colon and rectal cancer?
Only 25% of colon cancer patients have a family history. For individuals who do not have a family history of colon cancer, the onset can be attributed by lifestyle (poor diet and lack of exercise), environmental exposure, or stress. During pregnancy, a woman is encouraged to follow a healthy lifestyle, including making dietary changes as needed. Women who are vegetarian may become confused about whether continuing their vegetarian diet is actually healthy. Many such women will hear from friends, family, and health care professionals that being vegetarian is “unsafe” for both mother and baby. This can leave them feeling seriously conflicted.
