When purchasing a box of cotton swabs (Q-Tips), we usually have one use in mind—cleaning our ears—even though the box provides no instructions on how to do so. Instructions for the use of cotton swabs range from cleaning the grout between your tiles to make up-removal and the cleaning of electronics. Restoring fading memories

Research in Mark Baxter’s laboratory, the Glickenhaus Laboratory of Neuropsychology, focuses on the neural systems underlying memory and other higher cognitive functions, and understanding how disturbances in these systems impair cognitive function in brain disorders. Our general approach is to study the effects on behavior of specific manipulations of neural circuits in animal models, to gain insight into how similar disruptions in human disease may be responsible for cognitive impairment.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

Polycystic ovary syndrome, commonly known as PCOS, is one of the most common female endocrine disorders.

A syndrome is a group of signs and symptoms that occur together to characterize a particular condition. The definition of PCOS includes irregular periods, signs of excess androgenic hormones (masculine hormones) such as acne and excess hair growth, and an exclusion of other causes of an elevation of androgens. Although the name indicates the presence of cysts on the ovaries, not all women with PCOS have cysts (and not all women with ovarian cysts have PCOS). (more…)
