Since well before the pandemic, Mount Sinai podcasters have been delivering stories and insights to help you thrive in a challenging world. From fighting burnout and trauma, to building resilient families and communities, they explored what’s possible when science meets the human spirit. In 2020, as the pandemic struck New York City, podcasts have focused on stories from front-line health workers about how they were coping. Here are some of those stories.

Watch the first episode of The Vitals as host Leslie Schlachter, PA, Chief Physician Assistant in the Department of Neurosurgery, interviews two Mount Sinai physicians who worked on the front lines in the early days of the pandemic. Zevy Joshua Hamburger, MD, Associate Professor, Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine, and Erik Blutinger, MD, MSc, Assistant Professor, Emergency Medicine, and a public health specialist, talk about what it was like as the pandemic spread across the world and the response in New York City. Together, they discuss the challenge of treating patients despite a lack of knowledge about the virus and the need to improvise treatments. They describe how they struggled to maintain their morale amid the long hours, lack of resources, and catastrophic losses.
